Happy Conference Week! I look forward to seeing you all this week. Your conference is scheduled for 20 minutes, so we will have a short time to talk about a lot of things! You will receive your child's report card at the conference. Please remember that students are released two hours early all week.
Reading---We will continue to discuss the main idea and key details in nonfiction texts. Keep working on your sight words. Students should be able to read 100 words by the end of quarter two. Please have your child read nightly at home.
Math---We are learning addition strategies that will improve our fluency. In quarter two, we will +/- to 20. We will continue to work on word problems throughout the year. Please continue to encourage your child to make a t when solving story problems. They should include a picture representation, the number sentence, and the answer.
Writing---We have a new standard in quarter two. It is informational writing. Students will read books and teach others about what they have learned. Last week we wrote about spiders and this week we will write about the beluga whale. Students are encouraged to use the spelling word wall. We will also be focusing on beginning and ending punctuation.
Spelling words for the week will be three letter blends.
Social Studies---We continue to learn about Benjamin Franklin. Your child should be able to name some of his most famous inventions and explain his importance in American history.
Please remember to send in an excuse note after your child has missed school. I will forward these to the office.
