Terrific Tuesday

Good day parents,

Here is the latest news for our class! This week we are doing benchmark testing in Math and Language Arts. On Friday, we will have our last fire safety lesson. Students should have completed their fire safety book.

This week and next week in Science, we are working on force and motion, and simple machines. Students will have Science homework daily. We will test over the information next Thursday. In Math, we are working on graphing ordered pairs, multiplication, division, and rotations of Geometric shapes. In Language are we are working on grammar and in Reading we are working on sensory details, story elements, and summarizing. In Spelling we are working on unit 13.  We will test over it next week.  This Friday we will have a daily language review test.

Next Thursday Dec 17th is our class holiday party.  We will begin at 12 and end at 2 pm. We are requesting donations of 5.00 from each students to cover the cost of lunch that day.  A letter will be sent home in your child's Thursday folder with more details. Please sign your child's reading log and agenda everyday and send a healthy snack to school each day for your child. Thank you for all you do.

Merry Monday

Good day parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed the wonderful weather we had this weekend. We are only 5 days away from Thanksgiving break!  I'm sure we are all happy about that.

We have a lot to do this week. This week in Math we are working on Geometry.  We completed a project today on Geometry construction, where we created Geometric figures. Students will have homework everyday in Math except Thursday and Friday.  In writing we are working on descriptive essays.  We will be working on thinking maps today and then starting our rough draft tomorrow and we will finish our letter on Thursday. In Science this week, we are studying light and sound.  Students will have Science homework as well this week. In reading we are responding to books we have read and we are making inferences and judgments. Friday we will have a daily language review test.  Please ensure your child studies each night.

We will be going on a field trip this Friday to fire safety village.  Students will wear their fourth grade t-shirts on that day, if they purchased one.  Please make sure you are signing your child's reading log everyday.  Several students come to school and they don't have their agenda or reading log signed.  The agenda is my daily communication with you about your child's day and it allows you to see what they have for homework each day.  Thank you for your support. Also, I'm sending home progress reports today, so please review your child's progress report for this nine weeks so far. Thank you for all you do.

Hello parents,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  It's very chilly now, so please make sure your child wears long sleeves and jackets to school.

This week we are starting a new unit in Social Studies.  We will be introducing early explorers.  Students will study explorers from England, spain, and France. Students will receive a study guide to study.  For the next three weeks students do not need their Science book, but will need their Social Studies book or handouts they were given in class. Today's homework is to complete Chapter 3 lesson three review from their Social Studies book.

In math this week we are focusing on division.  tonight's homework is to complete lesson 10.3 in their practice book.

In writing this week, we are focusing on responding to what we read by writing a summary and making judgments about the books we read. In reading we are reading fiction and non-fiction books and discussing how we make connections to the books we read in order to help us understand what we are reading.

Report cards were sent home on Friday.  Please sign report card and return signed form tomorrow.  Please have your child read everyday on the weekend. Please sign their agenda and reading log daily. Also, please ensure your child brings a healthy snack to school each day.

Wonderful Wednesday

Good day parents,

I hope you are staying dry on this rainy Wednesday.  We are staying dry and learning a lot today.  Here are some updates.

This week we are working on multiplication.  We are learning how to multiply 2-3 digit numbers by 1-2 digit numbers.  Tomorrow, we will be working on multiplication arrays. On Friday of this week, we will complete our post-test of the 1st nine weeks.  We learned so much this nine weeks.  We learned how to multiply, how to recognize numbers in various forms, we learned how to complete input and output tables, and how to order numbers. Now, we are ready to assess our progress. This assessment is a measure of progress this far for the nine weeks, but is not counted as a grade.  We will begin our second nine weeks math unit next week. Our new unit will help the students learn division, multiplication properties, and Geometry.

In Language Arts, the students will learn how to respond to literature, how to properly use conventions, and how to utilize the appropriate steps to the writing process.  Please encourage your child to write at home everyday.

In Science this week, we are learning about weather and weather patterns.  The students will have a vocabulary test on Friday. We are reading books on weather in small group and will take a quiz next Tuesday over the books the students have read.  Please encourage them to study their vocabulary words each day.

In Writing, the students finished their first piece of narrative writing and published it. Now, we are working on our second piece of narrative writing.

In current news in our class, we will be taking our first field trip on October 16th to the Cobb Youth Museum.  Our next field trip will be to the Cobb county fire safety village. We will go on November 16th.  Permission forms will be sent home in Thursday folders.  Please check your child's Thursday folder every Thursday.  This is our weekly communication with you on your child's progress.

Please sign your child's reading log and agenda each night.  Several students are coming to school each day, without their reading log signed.  Please remind your child to complete his/her homework everyday and read on the weekends.  Also, each child should bring a healthy snack to school each day!

Good day parents,

What a cazy week!  We hope everyone is ok.  We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Thursday, if schools reopen.  We are going to continue our curriculum on math multiplication. We are working on multiplication properties.  Students should be able to identify the property and solve a multiplication problem using the property.  We will have an assessent over this on Tuesday of next week. 

In Spelling, we are working on long vowel patterns.  They will have homework tonight. We went over long vowel patterns in the first syllable. Today we will go over long vowel patterns in the second syllable. Friday, we will go over short vowel patterns in the first syllable.  Monday we will review all the words and Tuesday, we will test over unit five.  The homework assignment each day is to practice the Spelling words three times each in the category we reviewed that day.

Progress reports were sent home on Monday.  If your child has all a's and b's, they did not receive a progress report.  Please sign your child's progress report and send it back to school.

In Science, we are discussing the water cycle and will test over it next week.  We will then discuss weather patterns.  Please review your child's work each day. We will send home a review sheet before we test.

In language arts we are working on creating a personal narrative.  Students have reviewed creating a strong beginning, transitions words, describing words, and a strong ending.  Please review his/her writing we you see it in the Thursday folder.

Marvelous Monday!

Good day parents,

We hope your weekend was restful.  We are excited to be back and hard at work learning. This week, we are beginning a new unit in Science.  We will be discussing the water cycle.  Students will create vocabulary flash cards today in small group to begin the unit.  As a class, we will create a KWL chart on the water cycle.  We will discuss what we know, what we want to know and as we go along we will discuss what we have learned about the water cycle. Students will have Science homework everyday.  Today their homework will be to review their vocabulary words. In health, we are discussing emotions and feelings.  The homework for tonight is to complete the activity sheet on vocabulary.  In math, we have begun a new unit on Multiplication and division.  Today we learned about fact families.  The homework is set b page 122 in their math textbook.  In writing, we are beginning our unit on narrative writing.  Today we will discuss great beginnings and start the rough draft with a great beginning.  Last week, we brained stormed topics and created a web to write down out ideas.  Last week, we also completed our descriptive essay on my special place, so look for that to come home in their Thursday folder. In reading, we are continuing to study elements of a story.  Students will work with a partner to create a story map to help understand, character, plot, and setting.

Please have your child read for 20 minutes each night and sign the reading log.  In addition, agendas should be signed each night.  Also, please send a healthy snack to school each day. Please don't forget to sign and return the field trip permission form for the filed trip on October 16th. Thank you for all you do! You are the best!  Have  great and productive week.

Wonderful Wednesday

Good day parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend.  We are excited to be back at work.  This week we will test on Friday over unit Three Spelling.  Please make sure your child is studying the spelling words daily. Thursday folders will come home on Friday.  This week we are covering map and globe skills in Social Studies and we are working on graphing in math.  We will have a math assessment on Friday which will cover what we have learned so far in this unit. It will cover place value, graphing, and ordering numbers from least to greatest.  In reading, we are beginning our guided reading groups this week and we are focusing on recognizing character, plot, and setting.  We are going to the media center to check out and return books today. We are finishing our descriptive writing and will start narrative writing next week. Students will write a personal narrative that focuses on a story from their life.

Please sign your child's agenda and reading log each night.  Also, please include a healthy snack each day. Also, Field trip form went home, please sign and return to school as soon as possible.

Merry Monday

Good day parents,

This week we are working on the following units.

Math - Chaper 3- Understanding and analyzing data in graphs.  Students have homework everyday.

Writing- Writing a descriptive essay.  They will revise and rewrite their essay this week.  In addition ,we will work on simple and compound sentences in language arts. There will be no LA homework this week.

Social Studies- We are studying Native American cultures.  The class will test on the information this Friday.  Please review the study guide that will come home tomorrow for homework.

Reading- We are working on informational texts- making predictions based on information we see in the book.  Students should read each night for 20 minutes.

Spelling- Students wil test on unit two tomorrow.  Please review their words with them tonight. We will begin unit 3 Wednesday.

Our first field trip will be October 16th.  We will be going to the Cob Youth Museum. Field trip forms will come home in the Thursday folder.

Welcome Back

Hello parents,

Welcome back to school!  We hope everyone had a restful summer. We're  thrilled to be working with you this year.  We know your child is going to have a wonderful year!  We have so much to learn this year.  We want to welcome you to our blog.  Our blog will be our communication system for you to get information on all the latest and greatest in our class this year.  We will discuss homework, field trips, PTSA news, curriculum, and update you on anything going on in our class.  Our blog will be updated by Monday night each week or every other week.  Please feel free to email us, if you have any questions.

The week of 8/24 - 8/28, we will be working on number sense. Our unit will cover place value, rounding numbers and  finding patterns.

Spelling - We will introduce unit two in Spelling today and students will work on unit two next week with a test on Friday.

Language Arts-  We will introduce the six traits of writing and students will learn and explore what descriptive writing is.  Our standards for the 1st nine weeks is writing a personal narrative.

Social Studies-  We will begin our unit on Native cultures focusing on native American Indians.  we are studying chapter 2 in our social studies book.

Reading- Our focus this is week is building stamina in reading and setting long term reading goals. Your child will have an opportunity to check books out of the media center on August 27th, so from that day on, he/she should have an AR book to read and test on.

Please send your child to school with a healthy snack each day. Students will have homework Monday through Thursday, so please check his/her agenda and homework each day and sign his/her agenda.

Please encourage your child to read nightly and write as well.

We have our first filed trip on October 16th to the Cobb Youth Museum, so please look for a field trip from coming in September.  Our second field trip will be on November 20th to the Safety Village for fire safety.

Merry Monday

Good day,

This week we are beginning our unit on Geometry. We will be using chapter 12 in our math books.  We are beginning a new unit in wordlywise.  Students will be tested on it next Tuesday. In reading we are working in reading groups and reading stories about early American settlers.  In social studies, we are beginning chapter 4 in our Social Studies book.  We are also working on fire sfety every Monday and Wednesday through November. Please make sure your child completes his/her fire safety book homework when it is assigned on Monday and Wednesday nights. AR tests every week are a part of your child's reading grade.  I sent home AR reports last week, so you will see your child's progress in reading. Please sign your child's agenda and reading log each night. No school tomorrow for election day.
