Good day parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Go Steelers!!!! :-)
We are back at school and have a lot going on. Please allow me to begin by saying, I'm disappointed in the lack of AR tests my students are taking on books they read at home. I discussed this with several of you at parent teacher conference last week. Ar is a very important part of your child's grade. Each child should be reading one ar book a week at home and testing over it by Friday. Please make sure they book is on your child's reading level. Each child in my class has the ability to read a chapter book. I'm looking forward to great reading this nine weeks.
We just completed a Social Studies test on the American Revolution. This week we will be covering the start of a new nation in Chapter 9. We will begin today and test on next Monday, so we will have to move quickly. It is very important for your child to study everyday.
In math we will be working on Fractions again this week. Students will have math homework everyday. We will have a quiz on Fraction on Thursday. The quiz quiz will cover adding and subtracting fractions and ordering fractions from least to greatest.
In Spelling we are cover unit 10 and will test on in on Wednesday. Students have been given their core words and we also reviewed or and ore words so far. Please have them practice their Spelling words daily.
In reading groups we are covering non-fiction reading. Each reading group will read non-fiction books and we will focus on text features such as titles, sub titles, main idea, sequence of events and understanding where to find important information.
We are working on Daily Language Review and will test on it on Friday. We will have a wordly wise test on Wednesday, so please have your child study nightly for the test.
February is black history month and this month we will be learning about famous African-Americans. The students Willl be given a famous African-American to do a report on. They Will be given time in class to work on their project, but it is my hope that they Willl be able to do research at home or the public library. The projects are due on February 17th.
Thank you to everyone who came out to parent teacher conferences last week. It was a pleasure seeing each of you. I love teaching your child and I'm excited about all of the wonderful things we are learning. We have our CRCT test coming up very soon, so we will be doing a lot of review for the CRCT in the next couple of months. Most of our review will be covered for morning work, but I will send home CRCT packets from time to time for the students to work on at home. Thank you for all of your support.
We are running low on classroom supplies. If you could please donate any of the following, it would be greatly appreciated. Notebook paper, copy paper, sanitizer wipes, candy for our treasure box, or prizes for our treasure box.
Have a great week.
