Everyday, in addition to DLR review, we will be working on practicing for the CRCT test.  We will focus on reading comprehension, language arts, and math.  I really want to focus on problem solving, which is where a lot of students have trouble.  At home to help your child, you can read with them everyday and ask them questions as you read, so you will know, they understand what they are reading. There are some great workbooks at school box and lakeshore learning that you can use with your child to work on at home.  Due to the paper shortage, I'm not able to make extra copies to send home.  i apologize for the inconvenience.

In math, we are working on multiplying and dividing decimals.  Sstudents will have homework nightly. We are beginning chapter 11 this week in Social Studies, so sstudents should have their SS book at home everyday, studying. In writing, we are working on persuasive essays.  Students should be completed with the writing by Friday. Please don't forget to send in stamps for your child's brown envelope, if you have not already done so. Please sign your child's reading log and agenda each night. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack each day.

Good Day!

Good day parents,

Here is the latest information for Ms. Johnson's class.  Tonight is Mcteacher's night at McDonald's. Please bring your child out to see a "teacher" working at McDonald's. I willl be there from 5:00 - 6:00 to greet students.  It Will be fun.  10% of all proceeds willl come back to Pitner.

We are starting a new unit in Social Studies.  We are covering westward expansion. Students will be working on chapter 10 and 11 in their social Studies book. We will cover multiplication and division in math as well as data for this nine weeks. In language arts we are continuing our focus on non-fiction reading and writing. In spelling we are on unit 13.  students will be given their core words today. Please make sure your child is completing his/her homework every night.  Spelling, wordlywise, and math.  In addition your child should be reading a AR book every night and testing on it by Friday. If your child does not take an AR test each week, it will impact his/her reading grade negatively.

Pitner relay for life is having a coin drive, please send in all loose change, so we can raise money to fight cancer.  Please send a healthy snack to school with your child everyday.  Also, please sign your child's reading log and agenda daily.  Have a great day!

Parents, please sign your child's reading log everyday.  Starting today, March 11, they will not be allowed to participate in recess if their reading log is not signed.  They should have a parent signature along with their response to what they read.  It is imperative that they read an AR book for 20 minutes and respond to what they read in order to increase their comprehension skills.  Several students come to school daily with no signature on their reading log.  I am expecting all of my students to read and respond daily to what they read. Ask your child weekly, if they read an ar book and took a test.

Merry Monday

Good day parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Go Steelers!!!! :-)

We are back at school and have a lot going on.  Please allow me to begin by saying, I'm disappointed in the lack of AR tests my students are taking on books they read at home.  I discussed this with several of you at parent teacher conference last week.  Ar is a very important part of your child's grade.  Each child should be reading one ar book a week at home and testing over it by Friday.  Please make sure they book is on your child's reading level.  Each child in my class has the ability to read a chapter book.  I'm looking forward to great reading this nine weeks.

We just completed a Social Studies test on the American Revolution.  This week we will be covering the start of a new nation in Chapter 9.  We will begin today and test on next Monday, so we will have to move quickly.  It is very important for your child to study everyday.

In math we will be working on Fractions again this week.  Students will have math homework everyday.  We will have a quiz on Fraction on Thursday.  The quiz quiz will cover adding and subtracting fractions and ordering fractions from least to greatest.

In Spelling we are cover unit 10 and will test on in on Wednesday. Students have been given their core words and we also reviewed or and ore words so far.  Please have them practice their Spelling words daily.

In reading groups we are covering non-fiction reading.  Each reading group will read non-fiction books and we will focus on text features such as titles, sub titles, main idea, sequence of events and understanding where to find important information.

We are working on Daily Language Review and will test on it on Friday.  We will have a wordly wise test on Wednesday, so please have your child study nightly for the test.

February is black history month and this month we will be learning about famous African-Americans. The students Willl be given a famous African-American to do a report on.  They Will be given time in class to work on their project, but it is my hope that they Willl be able to do research at home or the public library. The projects are due on February 17th.

Thank you to everyone who came out to parent teacher conferences last week.  It was a pleasure seeing each of you.  I love teaching your child and I'm excited about all of the wonderful things we are learning.  We have our CRCT test coming up very soon, so we will be doing a lot of review for the CRCT in the next couple of months.  Most of our review will be covered for morning work, but I will send home CRCT packets from time to time for the students to work on at home.  Thank you for all of your support.

We are running low on classroom supplies.  If you could please donate any of the following, it would be greatly appreciated.  Notebook paper, copy paper, sanitizer wipes, candy for our treasure box, or prizes for our treasure box.

Have a great week.

rHappy New Year!!!

Good day parents! I hope everyone had a restful holiday. We are back in the swing of things and there is a lot going on. On today Pitner held a mock CRCT for all the students in the school. This mock CRCT will allow teachers to assess where students are in the areas of strengths and weaknesses. I will be sharing the results with you at parent teacher conferences the week of January 26th throughgh the 30th. Thank you all for being so flexible and returning your conference forms so quickly.

This week in my classroom we are working on unit 13 in wordlywise.  we will test over unit 13 on Friday. Please make sure your child studies everyday. We will have a DLR test on Friday as well.  In Spelling we are working on unit 9.  We are discussing contractions and irregular verbs. the students were given their core words and should practice those daily.  We will test over the Spelling words next Tuesday. In math this nine weeks we are learning about fractions and decimals.  this week we learned what a fraction was and how to identify equivalent fractions. Students will have a short quiz on Thursday to review what we learned this week.  In writing we are working on informational brochures.  We are learning about text features and what information goes into a brochure.  Each student was given a subject to research.  They will be allowed to research at school and it would be helpful, if they could research at home or at the public library. The information they are looking for will answer the questions who, what, when, where, why, and how.  A few small pictures would be helpful as well.  In Social studies we are studying the road to the revolutionary war and the revolutionary war. We are testing over chapter 7 and will begin chapter 8 tomorrow.  Students should know the causes and effects of the revolutionary war. They should also know who the important people were and where the important places were.

Please make sure your child brings a healthy snack to school everyday.  I used to let students pop popcorn in my microwave, but it's too much of a distraction now, so form now on, students will not be allowed to bring popcorn to school unless it is already popped. Thank you for your help in this matter. Please sign the back of your child's Thursday folder when it comes home.  Also, students should have a parent signature on their agenda and reading log everyday. Students are required to read for 30 min daily over the weekend as well. There will be no school on Monday January 19th.
