Marvelous Monday

Happy Monday parents!

We are off to a busy week.  We will have a wordlywise test on Wednesday, so please have your child study each night.  We will have a Spelling test on Friday over unit 1, so please study core words and Spelling words. We have gone over long 0 words, stretch it, and add it.  This week we  will cover finish it, and find it. Students should know how to spell which, their, there, and they're, and its and it's.  Please make sure they practice using these words in the proper context.  We will have a new wordlywise list on Thursday. In math we are continuing to cover number sense.  We will focus on mental math, estimating, rounding, and expanded form. In Social Stuides, we will be discussing map skills and Early American Indians.  We will have a map skills test each Friday for the next two weeks.  We will have a Social Studies test next week. We complete DLR every day for morning work and test on it on Friday.

We will have orientation for the media center on Monday, so students will be able to check out three books to last them two weeks.  I am encouraging them to check out two AR books.  I will allow students to start taking AR tests on Friday. Please make sure you listen to your child as they read to you or you read to them and ask them questions as they read.  Your child should read for 20 mins everyday.  We are ordering class t-shirts, so order forms will go out in about a week.  The cost per t-shirt should be approx $7.00. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack each day and comes to school prepared to learn with two sharpened pencils.  Please check his/her agenda every night and sign it.  This is my daily communication with you.

Good  day parents!

Welcome to Ms. Johnson's blog. Just an FYI...I'm working on clearing the old posts from last year out of my blog, so they will be gone by next week. 

We are off to a super start to our new year.  We had a great first week.  Here's what's going on in Mrs. Johnson's class.  This week we will begin unit 1 in Sitton Spelling.  We will test over it on Friday.  We are also working on number sense in Math.  This week we are working on place value in numbers up to 1 million, estimating and comparing numbers.  Students will have math homework everyday.  In reading, I'm completing reading assessments and the students are doing reading assessments online as well.  In Social Studies, we are working on Economics.  We are creating a planet and working on how the planet will run economically. 

Open house is August 21st.  I'm looking forward to seeing you there.  We are also hosting our funrun boosterthon.  Please allow your student to ask for pledges from family members.  It will be a fun day and fun way to get healthy.  Please make sure your child reads for 20 min each night and brings a healthy snack to school.  Please sign your child's agenda each night, so you will know what the homework assignment is and you will know how their day was.
