Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be returning to Pitner this October.  Our class will be able to preview the books starting October 17th.  The fair actually opens to everyone on October 22nd.  The students will be able to bring their money to school with them that week to purchase books.  They will report to the classroom and then I will send them as a group to make their purchases.  I am sure the fair will be filled with wonderful books for them to enjoy!!

Our year got off to a great start!  The students have learned the classroom procedures and have learned a lot more about each other!  We have really become a close community of learners.  We have many exciting plans for the month of October!  Please check the list below to mark your calendar for important events!

The second nine weeks of school is right around the corner!  Here are the topics we will be studying over the next nine weeks:

Language Arts/Reading-digraphs,dipthongs,irregular plurals,possessives,homophones,homographs,antonyms,synonyms,main idea and supporting details,summarizing,cause and effect,compare and contrast, plot, setting,dictionary skills

Math-two-digit addition and counting money,two-digit subtraction and trading money,telling time/exploring plane and solid figures

Writing-Informational writing/narrative writing

Science-energy,push and pull

Social Studies-Eastern Woodlands and Plains Native Americans, comparing our community Jamestown

Welcome Back!

Welcome to a wonderful year in Second Grade!  I have planned a lot of exciting activities for you!  I look forward to meeting you at Pitner's Sneak-A-Peek on Friday, August 10th from 1:00-3:00.  Our classroom is located on the lower level, room #305.  Please feel free to bring your school supplies that day.  I encourage you to come the very first day, willing to be a responsible and contributing member of our second grade community!

Just a few quick reminders as we get off to a great start in Second Grade:

• Please sign the students assignment sheet and reading log every night.  Everyone should be reading for at least 15 minutes each night.
• Everyone will receive a list of vocabulary words each week on Monday.  The children will need to learn the spelling of each of these words.  I will be reading the definitions aloud to them on Friday and they will be asked to write the word that matches the definition correctly.
• Brown-Bag It projects are due on Wed. 8-16.
• Mystery Baby projects are due Mon. 8-21.
• Starting Mon. 8-21, the students will be receiving homework every night.
• Open House is scheduled for Mon. 8-21 at 6:30.  I hope to see everyone there!!

It's that time of year again!  Welcome back!

Sneak-a-Peek is August 10th from 1:30-3:30.

The first day of school is August 14th.  The bell rings at 7:15 and school will begin at 7:45.
