WRITING: Last week we worked on homophones. We had fun with words like there, they're, their and your & you're. Students were able to write their opinion on football (Green Bay vs. Falcons), I loved the response that said that they just go to a super bowl party for the buffalo dip. Priceless! Students also shared their writing under the ladybug and we all worked together to peer edit. This week we will be looking more at persuasive and opinion papers.
READING: We had a great compare/contrast activity for Charlotte's Web using a venn diagram. We talked about opinion/persuasive papers and wrote a book review for Charlotte's Web. We had a pre-view of the RACE strategy. This week we will do an alphabet closing activity for Charlotte and complete our book unit. We will brainstorm ways that we can "R"ACE with reading.R=Restate the question-A=Answer the questions-C=Cite text evidence-E=Explain. This will be a multi week unit to formulate constructed responses for reading comprehension.
MATH: We took our number patterns and made logic puzzles out of how to solve them using +,-, x and /. Students were allowed to pair up during work time to finish the symmetry worksheets. We completed out review of the 4th grade CFA which they will see again this Friday. The 5th grade CFA (common formative assessment) on division is our inspiration this week during number talks at the beginning of the day and for our classwork as well.
Journals were collected in Writing, Reading and Math. Grades are posted on synergy.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Monday is Guidance. The rest of the week will be the beginning of WWI. We will discover and discuss the causes of WWI along with America's involvement in the war.
